Avian flu is once again at the centre of health attention in Spain after fourteen new epidemics have been confirmed since July. After two years without registrations, the H5N1 virus has reappeared in poultry and wild birds, forcing the strengthening of control measures in several autonomous communities. The most affected are Castilla y León, Catalonia, Andalusia and the Valencian Community, where authorities have ordered the confinement of all farmed birds in order to prevent the spread.
